A farmer friend of mine just upgraded to a newer Deere, and asked if I knew anybody interested in his old rigs.

One is a Leyland?? Its pretty big, bigger than my MF-40b, starts, runs-out well, brakes work pretty well, and is in pretty average shape for the age, 50%tires, and so on.. He"s asking $1500.

Other is an Oliver???. It"s just a weeee bit smaller than my 40B, has 3 pt., but some parts are off the 3pt because it has a forklift kind of thing on the back, but looks like all the draw-bars are there (on the ground in the barn). Runs out OK, Brakes fair, tires mixed. Asking $800.

I like my MF40, and use it,and will continue to use it for my business, but an extra tractor or 2???? Im pretty mechanical, so no fear on that, but parts and such, are they available? Oh yeah, both are diesel and were working tractors till last year.

Looks like you have a Leyland 255. We had one and I drove the crap out of it and it kept running. Wish I still had it, nice to drive and very easy on fuel. Found that the fuel system would plug easily at the tank, but that's just minor.
Parts might be an issue but if you have somebody that stocks Vapormatic parts, they may be able to get you what you need.

Hi Pete the Oliver 500 tractor is a UK built David Brown 950 tractor built at Meltham in Yorkshire. 42hp diesel engine and 6 speed gearbox. Good tractors but not the best hyd system. MJ

Get them both, Leyland is a good tractor make sure
you grease the steering under the fuel tank.
Sounds like a 55 or 550 Oliver also a good tractor
and worth the money

Can you be more specific: Is the Oliver Oliver built or a Fiat built. What about the Leland 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder, guess could ask the same for the Oliver if they are Fiat units. I would think you come out ahead on that.

How could I tell? I posted some pics just now, got alot more pics of under tractors, and shifters/controls, all high res. If anybody can tell me more of anything about these units I would sure appriciate it. The farmer man, said he's not sure of the years, but he bought them off a neighbor(who had got them new) when the neighbor went out of the ag. business.

He's a good dude, and as I have family up the road, i recall that they were in service last year, and understand his wanting of a newer unit with the hills around here, and the grandkids wanting to drive the tractors. I imagine untouched, these units can go to work right now. I run an excavating business, so my MF40b is set up to do what i need with the blades and such. But like I said, the $$$'s seemed really to hard to pass up..

Oliver is a David Brown 950 late 1950s early 1960
good tractor, useless hyd system, but will go for
years, hard to find parts for now, Vapormatic or Bearco, Bepco etc, will have some parts for both tractors,( engine, clutch, brakes, steering etc ) Leyland. late 1960s early 1970s, if it runs and starts good and no water in the oil and good oil pressure hot, it will be ok,a good one, tractors have a weak pto shaft, power steering is the same as the MF, Both tractors have great drawbar pull
