OK I'm back. I have a new starter and a new fuel pump. Engine NEVER fires. I bled system up to output of second filter using hand lever on fuel pump. Fuel looks good at that point. Next, I loosened the governor bleed screw on injection pump and turned engine over with starter motor. I get a good steady pressure stream of fuel out of governor bleed screw. Next I took loose all three injector tubes at injectors. There I see small drops of fuel when I turn engine with starter motor. Do I have a defective injection pump or better news do I have air in pump? NEED HELP.

In the manual, it says there are two vent plugs on the injector pump, a lower one at the back RHS of the pump, & an upper one at the top rear.
After bleeding up to the fuel filters, the manual goes on:-

"Loosen the lower vent plug on the injector pump & operate the lift pump lever until the fuel flows free of air. Tighten the lower vent plug.

Loosen the upper vent plug two full turns only.

Loosen the injector connections at the injectors. Crank the engine on the starter until the fuel is free of air at all connections.
NB the fuel shut off knob must be pushed in for fuel to flow to the injectors

Tighten the injector connections. Let upper vent plug remain open two turns only. Crank the engine with the starter motor until it starts. As soon as fuel coming from the upper vent plug is free of air, tighten the plug"

Hope this helps :D

My manual says the same. However, I was unable to get clear fuel at the injector even though the top bleed screw on the injector pump produced good fuel flow. Pulling the tractor really made the difference.

Thanks for input. I may be able to get a pull tomorrow. Tell me the exact procedures to start by pulling: gear, speed, expected distance.

Put it in high gear when you pull it. No droplets are what you want to see at the fuel injectors. This one must be similar to the Oliver 1255/65 series. Send me an e-mail. J.

Ok folks I feel better today. I pulled my tractor about 10 feet and it started right up. "WOW". I let it run 2-3 minutes, turned it off and it wouldn't start. Pulled it maybe 5 feet and it started right up. I let it run for about 20 minutes and it would start with the starter. I still think I have an air leak. What is good procedure to narrow down to air leak? I have had a fuel leak at the injector pump for a long time. Have not been able to pinpoint where that leak comes from. Stay with me. All help is appriciated. I'll wait about an hour and see if the tractor restarts. thanks all.

OK so far. I think I know the problem. Two weeks ago before it wouldn't start the fuel had been turned OFF. I turned the fuel ON and that is when the engine wouldn't start. Well I think the fuel had slowly leaked out of the injector pump and was displaced with AIR. Right now the pump is filed with fuel so it starts. Now I must find that leak. Does this sound like the cause of my problem?

Those engines can be a pain to get going once they get air in the system.Do you have a way of pulling the tractor to let the engine keep turning over so it can purge itself of air? That'd be the easiest way to do it.
