I used my Long 445 about a month ago without any problem. Last week I started it and all seemed normal. After about 15 seconds the engine died and would not restart. Would not fire. This has never happend in almost 30 years of use. Have fuel in tank. Tried several times but NO fire. I removed the battery and recharged. Today, NO fire. I went through bleeding procedures. I think there is always some air in fuel at injector input even after bleeding. There is a small fuel leak. Sounds strange but leak seems to come from rivit that holds tag to bottom of injection pump. That is where I see a fuel drop gradually build up. Before I try to remove the injection pump I will ask for other opinions. The pump alignment sounds a bit hairy. Could the pump have jumped timeing?

Have you gotten it going?? I have a simular problem with my 610. Changed fuel pump---no help. Inj pump drips and looses p rime. Bought new pump but not on yet. If I start regular basis is OK. Don't let set over 3 days or will loose prime. To prime you bleed out as normal, the loosen injectors lines and pull 100 ft or more. Tighten up injectors lines and will start with starter. LB

When the engine turns over, do you have blue smoke out of the muffler? If not, you are not getting enny fuel to the engine. Check the lift pump. It has a strainer in it that can be clogged and shut off fuel supply. The lift pump could be bad. They are not expensive. Also, could the fuel be shut off at the tank? I have seen alot water from condensation fill the lower fuel filter that makes starting impossible. Open the drain and see what comes out. Finally, if you have smoke out of the muffler and someone that can help you, pull the tractor in high gear to force air out of the system. You can bleed the lines, but pullin is much faster.

Thanks Jim. No fire, No Blue smoke. Rain today so am recharging the battery. Fuel flow through lift pump and two filters seems adequate. May still have air in injector pump. Don't have pull capability so will blead pump again tomorrow.

When you bleed, use the lift pump and bleed one section of line at a time, between connections, before proceeding to the next section. It is mort time consuming this way, but I believe the results will be better.

How cold has it been where you live? If water is anywhere in the system it will block the fuel line and hope no water is the injector pump and froze. If no cold weather I'd start trying to drain the lines to see if fuel isn't stopped up anywhere

Thanks for your input. I'm in central Florida so freezing isn't the problem. The tractor is always stored under a cover so rain doesn't get in. I get fuel to the input connectors at the fuel injectors. Fuel is clean at the fuel filter bowl. Engine has not fired once since it stopped last week. The small leak which I see was present for some time before the failure to start.

Ok folks I need your help. I have several issues with my Long 445.
1. My starter solenoid is alway energized even with all wires removed. Banging on outside of solenoid doesn't release short between all electrical connectors. Time for a new solenoid. My book shows P/N TX12072.
2.Fuel lift pump. The manual lever does not pump any fuel. It just flops up and down. So, my fuel problem may be my fuel pump. My manual shows Long P/N TX10289.

Can someone verify these part numbers? What is a good mail order source for these parts as I don't have a dealer in Orlando, Fl? Thanks for your time.

Treeman, turn your engine over just a bit(it may take a few times) and see if your lift pump will work. If the engine cam that pushes the lift pump lever is in the wrong place, you cannot manually pump with the lift pump.

If you have the original starter and you plan to keep the tractor, consider replacing it with a Bosch strter. It is like changing from a 6 to 12 volt system on those Longs.

Search for Fiat-Built Tractor parts on the net. Also, my local dealer would probably ship those parts for you. Call Robbie at 336-885-4582.
