This message is a reply to an archived post by Tom R in TN on January 11, 2006 at 05:17:41.
The original subject was "HomeMade tractor".

This post was started by my Father, who passed away this past Spring. First of all a big THANKS to everyone here and the admins. of this site, he found great joy in perusing the site and researching tractors.

He bought this used 1938-1939 B F Avery A, with a JD LUC power unit, and now I am supposed to declare a value for tax purposes. I think he bought it in late 2005.

Does anyone know who in Michigan might have sold it to him, or have any ideas as to what the value might be?

Thanks! Ted Ridley

Ted, Sorry to hear about your Dad. It's good to have something like old tractors to think about in hard times like these. Are you planning to keep Dads old tractor?

Ted, If your going through a succesion and the attourney needs a tax value it's easy. I just went through this last year when my Dad passed. The only hires was my brother and I so it was simple, no one griped. If one of your siblings thinks it's worth a fortune, sell it to them. This kind of stuff is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The lawyer is only wanting to list everything for his 2% succesion fee off the top. If you can't walk out there and turn a key to start it, list it as scrap iron. $20 bucks! If you can start it look around for items on ebay or other sale places and compair them. If you just can't locate another item like your Dads take your best guess as to what it's worth.

Oops, I should mention that I ~think~ it is a 1938-1939 model. Could be wrong on that.
Also should mention that this tractor is painted JD green and was shipped from Michigan to TN.
Thanks for any help.
