I have a serious diesel fuel leak around the fuel injector pump and the tractor won't start. I'm new to the tractor world so would anyone know if I need to replace the fuel injector pump, or gaskets or whatever. It always had a small fuel leak but it really pours now. I would really appreciate any help and advice. Thanks a lot!

Where exactly is the leak? At a line going to an injector or a line coming from the fuel filter? Some of these lines have copper or brass washers that act like gaskets. There may be one missing. Also check to see that the fuel is not coming from around the top fuel filter and just running dowm a line to the injector pump.

Thanks Jim, I haven't been able to pinpoint just exactly where the leak is. I tried to start it after storing it for the winter and deisel fuel seemed to squirt out in a stream somewhere around the fuel injector pump. I'll check the gaskets and washers at the fittings.

Thank you very much for your response.

David

Those upper filter bowls/mounts will pull loose from time to time. I have replaced a couple. Sometimes the leaks will run down a line then drip where it accumulate. Look for all possibilities.

Thanks very much for your help!! When a fuel injector pump goes bad does it just quit working, or does it linger around for awhile?

the only i have had to go bad was one on a Dodge Cummins diesel. It had no power . It would idle and rev a little and make a lot of blue smoke. Drove it about 50 miles and found a good place to park. Some of the nicest folks I have ever met. We were coming home from the beach. Still had 130 miles to go.
