I just aquired a long 445 from my grandfather, it was a tractor they used on the family farm for bushogging. It was not a tractor that g'pa used, serviced, or knew anything about. The folks who were using it to maintain the farm didn't know much about it either, other than the secondary hydraulics for plows and so on did not work properly. I guess my question would be, is there any common problems with this? Also, since I just got the tractor and know nothing about it, is there anything I should do or check out before using it much? Finally when I change the transmission and engine oils is their any recommendation on the type I should use? I do have a service and parts manual ordered. However, any insight would be greatly appreciated... I was glad to find a forum with others having long tractors as I had never even heard of the brand... Thanks

A suggestion that might answer some of your questions. Search the archives of this site. I and others have answered many of your questions here. Go to Farmtrac.com and find a dealer near you. Farmtrac is the new name for Long. Get a manual cause it will explain alot of things and make maintenance much easier. If you have specific questions after searching, come back and ask. I will be glad to help. I run 2 Longs, a 360 and a 445. The 360 was bought new in 1978, and the 445 is about a 1975 model, bought in 1981.
