I have a Model 2 Co Op (not a B-2), made by the Duplex company. Wide front end. I have a few questions. What model of Chrysler flat-head engine was used in these? The only numbers stamped in the block are: S14-61132. The bore is 3 7/16" and the stroke is 4 1/4".
What is the valve clearance?
Part number for a head gasket?
Part number for a canister type oil filter? (approx. 5" long x 4 1/4" in diameter)(not enough left of the old one to get a good number)
What is the approximate year?
Thank you.

I have a 1937-38 Tractor Field Book which shows
a Co-op No. 2. It was tested at Neb. No 275.
It has 29.67 HP on the drawbar 33.17 on the belt.
It had a Chrysler Industrial 3 1/8 X 4 3/8 motor.
It list a Purolator oil filter but no No.

Dean: May not be too much help, but I have a 1956 Motor"s manual listing for a S14 (S) & (C) engine as a 1950(DeSoto)3-7/16 bore-4-1/4 stroke 236.6 cid. Valve operating clearance (intake).008 hot and exhaust .010 hot.
Stem clearance intake (.001-.003) exhaust (.002-.004) . Never worked on a 237, but plenty of 218
and 230 engines. Try Denny Miller at Vintage Power Wagons if you run into a parts problem.

I'm sorry that I can't answer the questions you asked, but I have some info on the Co OP #2 that might interest you. Manufactured 1936-1942, 6 cyl. Chrysler L-head engine, 201.3 cu. in. bore and stroke 3.125x4.375, 1500 rpm, zenith carb, Donaldson air cleaner, 33.17 belt hp., shipping weight 4,050 lbs., 5 speeds ahead, 1 reverse, origional cost:$1,238.00. As a young kid, I remember my grandpa buying one of theese that was about 12yo used. That critter would "fly" in 5th gear, and put his JD model B to total shame when it came to brute power. It's main problem was that it would frequently lock in gear and require him having to take tranny cover off and "frigulate" with it at the most inopportune times. I can still remember his colorful language in describing this tractor when this occurred. But also he'd like to brag on its power. I'd love to have one of those squat, stubby, boxy old brutes to "play with" today. I use my Ford 2N for my work tractor. Best wishes. Mr. Bob

It may have been made in 1939. There's a lot info
in the archives on these tractors by their owners.
Some history too. They said a lot of owners picked up their tractor at the factory and drove them home since they would run about 30 mph on the road. I think your local auto machine shop
may have an old repair manual on this engine. I will give the local machine shop in my area a call
since they have been in business 75 years. Hal

Whichever Chrysler Industrial you have (assuming it is an Industrial) it should be a pretty low number, as Larrymd says...the 1950 Field Book apparently showd Custom B and C (Custom was successor) with a Chrysler Ind 217 ID"d as Chry Ind #5 (seems there"s also a 5A, but I don"t know b/s) while the Chry Ind straight 8 put into Customs is shown as #12A. Gas engine magazine ? pieces on Jacob Love and Dave Friday state they used Chry Ind #30, a 218, and #32, "larger"...it"s a puzzlement, as the bald man said...

Thanks guys. Seems as if there are a lot of uncertainties in Co-Op lineage. I'll see if NAPA can use any of this to help them distinguish the right parts.

The model number of the engine should be 7,this is from a listing of tractor engines. This is from the 1946 book. By 1958 the model numbers were 2 digit like 29,30,32 etc. Some of the bores a strokes were still the same. That engine is not listed in the tuneup section of the book.

AAAAGH!! Never think of the simple things...car book shows DeSoto eng #S-1,2 beg 35, up to S-10 1942 and S-11 for 46...if holds true S14 should be 1949 production...now if we only know whether that's in any way helpful...(with sympathy) good luck!

Well, I wish I could help, but all I've got is confusion...my notes show #2 came with 31/8x43/8 (the 201; info probably from the tractor ref books, but I failed to note). Stories abound re' engines being Industrial versions of Chrysler, Dodge and Dodge truck engines. Per my Motor car book neither Chrysler, Dodge or DeSoto used a 201, but Dodge truck did in some models 36-40, and Plymouth used a 201 35-41. I've never located a conversion table car/truck engine to Ind'l versions, but one has to exist somewhere. Now: 37/16x41/4=236.6ci (237) shows as a DeSoto engine 42 and 46, and as a Dodge Trk engine 41-49; its possibly a replacement, as the #3 and upgraded #2's supposedly used a 242. NOTE: THE CAR BOOK ENDS 46 AND THE TRUCK BOOK ENDS 49. I can send the 237 Dodge truck engine numbers (5 listed, 3 diff CR and HP) if you don't get better info, so you can talk to Dodge truck people about your casting number.. Good luck!

Lots of information to ponder. Thanks to all who have replied thus far.
My parts guy said he should have a head gasket tomorrow. Hopefully it is for my 237 CID engine (I suppose it may fit a variety). If it is the correct one, I'll post a part number. Unfortunatly, it probably won't be until next week until I can get back on the project. Until then, I hope more people can post information here to further add to the discussion..... ...

Got the gasket today. Appears to be correct. Part number is: Felpro, 7256 C (replaces 1828264). According to the packaging it fits:
Chrysler, Desoto 6
218, 228, 241, 251, & 265 (1937-54)
Dodge Truck 6 228, 237, 251, & 265 (1937-59)
