Trying to help one of our seed customers find a oil pump for his 1946 Avery V with a Hercules motor in it. Having trouble getting oil pressure when he first cranks it over. Takes 2-4 minutes of cranking to get pressure. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks again.

The plugged screen is a good thought. Have seen screens near carbon-ed shut, having to apply flame and wire brushing. Another is the relief valve spring either week or broken. I"ve had this problem twice in my lifetime. One time fix was new relief valve spring. The last time I added a couple washers behind the what I though was a weak spring. Those washers fixed the problem. The most embarrassing oil pump I"ve ever experienced happened only once may years ago shortly after STP came on the market. I had changed the motor oil, the pan plugged I first poured in a can STP, on engine start the STP gummed up the oild pump so it pass no oil. Had to pull pan, clean oil pump. From then on anytime I"ve ever added an oil supplement it was poured into a running warmed up engine. Only additive I have used of late has been Lucas Oil in my Cushman"s horizontally opposed two cylinder engine. Worked good loosening sealing the rings helping to reduce sparkplug fouling. I not recommending Lucas Oil for everyone; although, it worked for me that crazily designed bottom spark-plugged engine. Okay, I"ve said to much. Good luck.

Have you checked the pickup screen on the pump for sludge? This could be restricting the pump's ability to pull oil from the pan. Hal

How much oil pressure does he have once he has oil pressure? Have you checked anything else at this point?
