I am working on the history of Utica, Michigan and have a photo taken prior to 1904 of a winter parade with signs for Plano. One smaller sign says "Gear Peer". I am told there were Plano tractors, but I can get no more information. I would appreciate any help about the tractors, where they were made, etc.

Thanks.

Correction: (nobody"s perfect): the Plano implements seem to"ve been m"f"d by Plano M"f"g Co, which apparently was moved from Plano and/or West Pullman IL to Chicago (in Chicago per 1897 catalog cover), while the Plano Implement Co that apparently built potato planters for two years later (early-mid 00"s?) seems to"ve been located in one of the Plano M"f"g Co"s old plants. Accounts are ambiguous (so what else is new?).

There"s quite a bit of info on Plano, IL, under that search and also under Marsh Implement, which apparently made Plano the harvester capitol of the world (it says). One account mentions Plano Implement, saying it only lasted two years. While I only scratched the surface, it shouldn"t be too hard to contact the local Historical Society, which would probably have info about tractor companies---assuming, of course, any Plano tractor was produced in Plano, IL---but there"s also a Plano, TX---and probably more Planos scattered around the country--Good luck.

FWIW: this question's been around for some time (the tractor; I have no info re' implements). There was a Motox or Motex tractor, late teens, originally built by Plano Tractor Co, Plano, IL., later either built by or sold by Wabash Tractor Co, Wabash, IN., as the Wabash, but apparently (at time tractor histories published) no record of being sold as Plano, or of a Plano. I have an old piston catalog that lists both the Motex (1921) and the Wabash "Motox" model (no years). Check the archives; someone in the south? midwest? has been looking for Plano info for a year so. Good luck

C.H.Wendel book Farm Tractors 1890-1980 2nd Edition he list the Plano Tractor Co. Plano
IL as building the 12-24 Morox which appeared
in 1917. Sometime in 1919 Morox was taken over by Wabash Tractor Co.
