The 2006 Antique Tractors calendar has a beautiful picture of a 1948 Model C Golf Chief. The description states They were manufactured from 1939 to 1949,powered by a Chrysler 218 CI L head engine and have a Dodge heavy duty 4 speed trans and a Timken-Detroit 1 ton axle.
I owned one of these for 30 years and gave it to my son last year. Ours isn't restored but it runs and drives. I framed the picture in the calendar and have it in my pool room.

You could try contacting Jacobsen as they bought out Worthington because Worthington had good reel mowers. Jacobsen used to call their garden tractors Chief. Maybe as a tribute? Hope this helps. Dave

OOPS--forgot to add that history said different auto/truck engines etc used, some Ford as Larry MD mentioned, apparently some Chrysler Cptn per yours and EBay one, maybe more, don't recall.

Still having internet problems, but the Dodge Worthington was on an EBay ref; it"s sold but the info is there as of 4:15 PDT (that"s a minute ago) Item # 150066881304 listed as "Worthington Chief tractor 1940", and the EBay page has several others for sale. There"s a Worthington club on yahoo groups, and the history I found somewhere by Googling "Worthington tractors", but I can"t get back into it now. Good luck.

Worthington put out a line of what some call golf course tractor/mowers; there's a post somewhere that has more info, incl one with Dodge engine and a history of the company. Having trouble with my set this AM; will try to find and post it later. Many people who see them assume they're "doodlebugs", cut-down cars or pickups, when they actually come from the factory that way, and collectors despair that people are stripping them for engines etc.
