Bought a Long 350 Monday that has sit for a while. Got all the major stuff working today and hooked up my dirt scoop & headed to the back side of the pasture. The lift worked fine until I dropped it for a brake at the last gate. Now it will not lift or even try too. I suspect the lift control lever to be the problem from what I have read on other post The lever is moving OK but it has a huge rounded shoulder washer or cover next to it that starts to move but does not. I suspect it is binding. Does anyone have a exploded parts view of this or one that is similar? What type of hydraulic fluid does it use? 30 weight oil was suggested on one post I saw and a can of 30 weight was in the tractor tool box. Any help would be appreciated.

More than likely you had air in the system.I have several of these Fiats that the lift would not work when I got them but have gotten all of them to work.Take the cover off that holds the screen on the suction line clean everything throughly, get a NEW "O" Ring to put on the cover drain all the fluid and replace with John Deere regular HYGUARD trans fluid.Using cheap oil and fluids in a tractor is false economy. If the problem persists hook an open line into one of the remote lines to purge the system of air by holding the remote lever down until fluid comes out the lift will start to work

Thanks for the info. I am going to change the fluid again in a few days after some use and will follow your advise.

30wt. nondetergent or R&O hydraulic oil works fine in them. Since you just got the tractor, I would suggest you clean the hyd. oil filter. I use gas, let it dry, then compressed air. It is located in the return line just below the starter. Be careful with the o rings that come out with the filter. If the filter is full of sludge and gunk, or looks milky, change the oil. Two drain plugs are under the tractor and the dipstick is on the top, right side of the transmission. You could add a little diesel, about a gallon, and a can of Seafoam to help clean the system before you change oil. I did this in the spring and it really helped mine. I ran it for a couple of hours to get it hot and help break up the mess. You may have to drain a little of the oil to add the diesel. If the oil looks clean, make sure it is at the proper level. There is a bleeder valve on the lift where the hyd. line enters the lift. It is flat on 2 sides. You can use an adjustable wrench to loosen it and bleed the air from the line. Tighten when a good flow of oil shows. There may be a couple of other things to check, but these are the basics. AS far as the lift control, the linkage may need some WD 40 to help free it up. There are several moving parts in this area. I believe there is a fiber washer for the arm to rotate against. Maybe this will help get you started. Overall, the Longs are pretty good tractors. The hydraulics are probably their weakest feature. I have used them for 28 years with only minor problems. Just lucky I guess.

I checked for a filter on what looks like an accumulator below the starter. It is about 3" in diameter. The cover had two screws, one on top and one on the bottom. It has a long magnet on it but had no filter, but looked like one should have been there! Tomorrow I will add fuel and Sea Foam, run it a while and drain.

Thanks for the good info, the only thing I did not do was bleed the system, which I will do tomorrow also.

If it doesn.t bother you to do so, send me your phone number. Thought of another suggestion. I can talk faster than I type.

Sorry I did not get your reply until now. 850-251-8024 is my cell number. I drained and cleaned it all up. New fluid, bleed every thing again, checked the control linkage and it is moving inside the tractor. Acts like it either is bypassing somehow or a valve is stuck. I'm too old for this...lol I will get a filter on order and a shop manual.

The filter goes right there, where the magnet is. You need one to protect the hydraulic pumps, valves, and the small passageways in the lift. Go to Farmtrac. com and search for a dealer near you. Farmtrac is the new name for a Long.

We have progress..I took the dirt scoop off, raised the arms manually a few times and they finally stayed. Dropped the lift and nothing until I increased the RPM to 2300, then it jumped up. After a few times of doing that I was able to get the RPM down to 1500 and still get it to work. And now the power steering is working also!
Something has trash in it I suspect & it effects both the lift and the power steering at the same time. I used it about an 1 1/2 moving some dirt and it did not improve any at all.
I will get a filter in it and also put some Sea Foam in it. It's usable now and that is what counts most, got to get a culvert in before the rain next week and my little Kubota was over it's head trying to move all that dirt!
I sure do appreciate all the help.
