Hi

I have a very old tractor. it has a 20hp one lung motor, tracks that looks like they were made from a commercial conveyer. I have disassembled the whole tractor and found 2 tags one for the hydriodic pump a Vickers and one cast into the drive gear as Joost Mfg co. I understand from the threaded emails that you are a descendant of the owners of the company.

My tractor is in almost running condition It needs 2 new clutch plates and lots of pads for the tracts. I believe that I can find the clutches but I do not have much of a clue as to where I can get pads for the tracts. The tract that were on it were made from the same material as the bumpers on loading docks held together with angle iron bolted to the chain pads. This configuration was so it could be used on a concrete floor. It occurred to me that if the tractor is really running on a clever use of conveyor chain then there maybe other choices for replacing the pads. I had almost come to the conclusion that nothing existed for this tractor and I was going to have to make the pads myself. Any ideas that you may have will be greatly appreciated.

By the way this tractor was used in a factory in Albany New York until taken home after the factory closed around 1980. It is one of 4 ever made ( I am told ) that has a bucket and a plow blade. I got this information from antique power magazine .

Hi Dave. I was just reading your Agricat story. Seems there were lots of versions of these little crawlers. I just bought one, and have odd tracks on mine too, but they sound different from yours, and everyone elses too. Mine look like they were made from sections of shallow channel iron. I thought I might epoxy rubber pads in that shallow channel so I could use the thing in parades without scrapping up the street. I dont think mine was made to have pads, but it looks easy to do. I would cut up old tires.
