The gear shift leaver disengaged it's self from the low first/reverse shift fork when I shifted from low forward to low reverse and stayed in low reverse. I removed the top cover and moved the shift fork back to the neutral position. Is there an adjustment for this? What can cause this? I can't see any abnormal wear on either part.

My 445 shifter slips out in between gears once in a while and locks up. I just remove cover and put it back into correct position. The reason this happens is because the end of the shifter is worn. A Long mechanic told me that one could build up the end ot the stick by welding then grind smooth. I did this and it seemed to help some. I was afraid to add to much since I thought it may add other problems. I have learned over the years to shift slower which keeps the stick more unter the operator's control. Usually when it happens to my tractor now, It is done by someone else who is helping me and is new to the tractor. Hope this helps

Looks as though I have to live with this for a while which I can do. BTW I used the Seafoam Trans Conditioner for my hydraulic system for a few days and then drained and refilled ( over full) with deisel just to wash the gear case area good. Then refilled ( 5 gal ) with hydraulic fluid and removed the common return line and ran it untill it was clear and repeated for the power steering until I used all of the fluid. Then I cleaned the filter and refilled to the proper level. the fluid looks good now. thanks again for the help.

Glad the sea foam worked. There's some snake oils that work. LOL I think they have a good product. And thanks for reporting it too. Keep those Longs a chugging. I have one too. Tough tractors. Just have to treat them right. TLC!!

Y'all have a good one!!!
