I used to collect John Deere...back in the late 1960's and 1970's when they were $15 per ton derelict in the field (the good days) Life changed, I had to sell them all. Now we bought an old 5A farm in E WA state wheat country to retire on. I have no tractors; sold my perfect 485 Case-IH which was my last workhouse. So...I need a loader tractor to maintain the, "new," place. Will be doing no farming. Need to spread gravel, move a little gravel, some blading, move snow, a little cleanup disking; nothing big or in a hurry. I was thinking of a Farmall 400 or 504 w/loader. The Volvo tractor (425?) intregues me, but probably couldn't take a loader What would you buy if you were starting over and wanted something maintainable, useful, loader-capable, but interesting? There 'oughta be some colorful debate on this subject. Dennis...looking forward to having a tractor again...

There has been some trouble finding spare parts for Volvo BM tractors. Still there seems to be parts availeable in Sweden and Holland. Valtra is not interrested in making parts for old Volvos but rumours tell that someone has taken over. Many of the smaller Volvos have Perkins 3.152 ?? engines.

Open to ideas other than Volvo too... in reply to t, 01-30-2006 08:29:53
Thanks. I wonder what parts for Volvo tractors are hard to find? If engine is B16 or B18, I have some things for those. If parts difficulty is with final drive, axles, etc., could be harder. I've got an old Volvo car I like, a Volvo tractor would be a nice match. Another make/brand is a consideration too, as I have made no firm choices yet. Dennis
