age of hercules engine

I have a Ixa 3x4 # 662075 hercules engine ,what age would this engine be, thanks for your help.

I just looked in my Cletrac GG parts book. The tractor was introduced in 1939 with an IXA engine. Serial number for the first engine they used is listed as 664 000. That should get you closer than where you were. The last IXA engine listed for them was 682 537 and that might have been in 1940 as then they went to the IXK engine, same serial number group

They were first made in the late 20's.There is useually a casting or stamped date on the right hand side just above the oil pan.The day and month will be reversed on the older ones.

Larry from maryland ,on the right side of the block above the pan behind the geardriven generator the # 27001D with as F below that,does that mean it was built 1 december in 1927, it did come from factory on hard rubber.thank for your help.

No,you have a newer engine.The casting number would be like this on older engines IX25-4-37.That would be aprill 25 of 37.Sometime after 1942 that style was changed and date is usually stamped higher up on a flat spot.

Larry behind the carb.is a metal tag on the block that has 3x4 Ixa with the # 662075 on it on the left side of the block has K-24 on a flat spot. stamped in the right frame at the back of the tractor is # 83-JJ3 this engine has perk cooling, has no water pump. thanks again harold

to j.Schwiebert, the engine is in an auto-mower built by revere brass and copper co. in Rome N.Y. it has the name Rome Cast in the radiator in my research only 6 have been located.This one was purchased new by the Arkansas highway dept. after a rollover, an employe purchased and rebuilt for personal use.
