You MIGHT find the year cast into he top of the head or the trans case or a rear axel housing. The serial number bears no relationship to anything.

I have a 445 that is rated at 42 hp. The 460 is the newer version of the 445. I think the hp is the same. There should be a plate on the side of the transmissiom case that will give you the model and serial number. I forget which side. You could go to farmtrac.com and contact a dealer. He may be able to tell you the year of manufacture.
