Im starting to put my Continental F-162 engine back together and I am stumped on how to get the cam shaft end play set right. Im totally confused about the plate that bolts up to the block(behind the cam gear) It doesn't fit flush. I have to have everything loose for it to turn. As soon as I start to tighten anything it gets tight or just jams up. Anyone out there have a idea or a manual better to look at then I do? Thank You!

If I can remember when I had mine apart, there is a freeze plug on the opposite end of the cam shaft, could there be something between the shaft and the plug causing it to bind, has the freeze plug been replaced? Also is your oil pump off the block? the gears could be meshing incorrectly. I will look at a spare engine I have in pcs and see if I can see anything that might cause a problem.

Thanks for the reply. If you could look at a spair engine and see what or how the plate right behind the cam gear is. I can't get mine to fit flush up against the block if it is sapost to. Not having it fluch is what is causing the bind. I did slide my oil pump down in that runs off the cam gear in the center. It seemed to help a little, but I don't think that is right. Im going to take it back to the shop that bored it out and did some other work on it to see if he has any ideas tomarrow morning. Thanks again.
