My 1936 Silver King R-44 has developed a catch in the steering that jams it tight, preventing right turns. Left is OK. It"s never seemed to me to be the right box anyway, as its holes don"t line up with those on the frame. Is there a) a source for genuine or repro parts or b) an equivalent from some more common tractor that can be substituted?

Just thought I would mention that some forklifts have ross steering gear boxes namely some made by caterpillar. There were some instructions in ther manual for my model 42 on adjustments. Maybe that could help.

Does it have a name on it? My Model 42 has the "ROSS" name on it. I have another tractor (Massy Harris)with that same name. Its possabe that there could be some other tractor out there that used the same thing. On mine though they also have "Silver King" stamped into it as well,so maybe it was specially made for the SK's? I hope someone can shed more light on it. Have you tryed taking it apart? It might be a easy fix you never know.
