Hello,
I am looking at buying a Long 560 from a local dealer. They are selling it 'as is' for $3800. They told me it needs a hyd pump. 3pt and steering wont work. They say you have to split the case to get at the pump. It has a loader on it. Pretty good shape otherwise. 3600hrs showing.

Is the pump expensive to rebuild/replace? Any thoughts comments? Anybody know the specs of the tractor? They thought it was 55hp.

the tractor has two pumps on them one for the hyd and one for the power steering if both are not working it could be a dirty filter,if the draw the oil for the same resivor some had a sepreate tank for the power steering the chances of both pumps being bad is rare in either case you don"t need to spilt the tractor to change the pump

Ok that sound true. None of the pumps are noisey at all. It looks like the front pump that drives the power steering is actually two pumps?? I am going to get a manual and test the system if i can. ANy other input would be great!!!!! Thanks!

The front pump is for the hydraulic lift and the rear pump is for the power steering. There are several troubleshooting steps-the first and main one is to clean or replace, if really dirty, the hydraulic oil filter and change the hydraulic oil. If the filter is full of gunk and the oil is gray or milky, this may be the most likely cause of the problem.

Jim thanks for the info. I did buy the tractor - it should be home today.

There are two pumps on the timing cover housing. It looks like one feeds the other - maybe a hi volume/lowpressure into a high pressure?? These appear to goto the power steering.

I was told there is another pump under the seat in the housing. Was told this pump feeds the 3pt hitch and loader.

Someone added a seperate pto pump to run the loader. I want to get rid of that so I can add a mower.

Any help would be great!!!!! !!!!! !

Joe, I have never seen one as you describe. The ones I have seen have 2 pumps under the injection pump. The front one operates the hyd. lift, oil intake from the bottom and pressure line out the top to the lift under seat. The pump facing the rear is the power steering pump. Its oil supply comes from the same line as the hyd. pump and pressure line goes to ps cylinder. AS far as I know, the pumps work indepently from each other. I have a 360 and a 445 and my brother has had a 445 and a 610. I was at a local long dealer yesterday and looked at one as I have described to you. I hope this doesn't confuse you too much. Good luck with your tractor.

Joe, the filter housing is in the Hydraulic oil supply line that runs from under the transmission-rear end area to both pumps. The filter goes in this line below the starter. You will see a cover with 2 bolts here. There is a magnet to catch shavings and an o ring to seal it. You need to install a filter if there is not one in the system. It is a wire- mesh cylinder and can be cleaned with diesel or gas and compressed air after drying. My dad used to think the lift worked better if it was removed, but you need it to protect o rings and seals in the lift and pumps. If the hydraulic pump and lift are working properly, the resistance created by the filter will not hinder performance. There are a couple of tricks that I have found that have helped me when having hydraulic trouble with longs. I can try to explain them here but the posts would be rather long. You can email me or if you want, or I can send you a phone number. Long hydraulics are a weak part of the tractor, but overall my problems have been minor ones. Good Luck and remember our troops!

My Long 560 has no hydralic assist until you put the front end 1-2 foot lower than the back wheels for a short while. Once primed the system seems to work ok. I have not tried to lift anything with the 3-point yet though. Could the filter cause this condition?

Jim you are correct. Tractor is home. Changed the fluid. Could not find a filter. Is there suposed to be one in the feed line? There is a block off plate which I removed, but no filter. Both pumps are pumping, but does not seem to be much. Cracked the lines to test that. Getting a gauge to put on them next. Wish me luck!
