I have recently purchased a Standard Engine Co. walk behind tractor. It is a Standard Monarch. Is anyone familiar with this type of tractor? I have been searching the internet to try and find information on it, but I haven't been very successful in my findings. It doesn't seem to be a very popular tractor. Any information you can send me would be most helpful.

They are not uncommon. I've got half a dozen Monarchs, a couple of Standard Twins, a Viking Twin, and a Walsh. Viking Twin is actually a Standard Twin maketed under the Viking name. The single cylinder Walsh was bought, as I recall, by Standard company. The Monarch is a sucker-valve engine, and, depending on vintage, came with wooden handles, are later on steel handles. Wheels could be rubber, or two types of steel wheels (with cleats or with spikes). There are many tractor books that provide history on Walsh, Viking, and Standard Motor Co. I've got original owner's manuals for them all. ?There are many websites offering history also. For one, try: Link

The standard twin is one of the most popular of the old garden tractors. You could walk or ride.I see several every summer at shows. For some reason you don't see any of the one cylinder models they made.I am sure i have pictures and stats in my old books, but can't scan anything.Try the garden tractor board.
