Hello,

My brother has an AM-2 which he believes was bored .030 inch over. The pistons are stamped 85 which we believe is 85mm. The rings in these pistons were frozen from sitting for a long time and two were broken trying to free them up. The problem is getting new ones with out paying an arm and leg for them. Prices quoted by Holder North America were 38 dollars U.S. each for the top three and 102 dollars U.S. for the bottom ring. Do you know of an alternate source that would allow him to get this great little tractor running again?

Thanks for any help in advance,

Ron DeGroote

Holder in Oregon in reply to Niels den Boer, 12-15-2004 13:58:21
20+ Years ago I had a AG-3 Holder. It was "found" on a dealers back lot having failed after a $3000 no guarantee overhaul. I bought it from the owner and discovered that a rod bearing had failed. Could not get any response from the folks that had earlier supplied a new built up crankshaft, bearings and pistons. So I rebabbited the failed rod insert, bench tested the special oil feed pump and started it up. It ran fine but a letter I received from the new Canadian distributor had me worried. (1980) "---Even motors rebuilt at the factory by specialists are unsuccessful and have a life expectancy of between 10 minutes and 200 hours. Holder now sells a 4 stroke replacement for the 2 stroke dry sump engines---" I sold the tractor after two years of use warning the new owner about the problem. In another couple of years he had the same problem. I heard a retired German machinist had it running again.. wallysky@charter.net (Remove the y before sending)

Hello Mr.den Boer:

I have just recently heard about the Holder tractors. The new ones look very impressive. I don't know what the 10-15-yr. older models' features are. I wanted to compare with mine.
Were they all made with Deutz engines? Where were they originally manufactured?

I have Pasqualis and PGS Roma 60, articulated.
I was wondering if you are familiar with the PGS in Holland?
I know there are not many , but i'm not quite sure about the value. I may want to sell one of mine some time.

Hi,

The early models where made with:
Diesel engines from: Holder, MWM and Sachs
Gas engines from: JLO and Sachs
The first tractor Holder made was the Pionier, this model is from 1930. This was an 2 wheel tractor. The first 4 wheel tractor was the A10, 10HP with diesel engine. The tractors are manufactured in Germany in the town Metzingen. That's near Stuttgart. Holder is still making Tractors. The other tractors you mentioned I only know the Pasquali. Sincerely,

Niels

Niels, That is an incredible collection of tractors that you and your Grandfather have. Were on earth do you store such an impressive collection. I have a question on the A16, which I have spoken about before and you have replied. The manual for the engine shows an internal oil filter but mine has an external oil filter like a car type cartridge. Is your A16 the same and does your manual show this if you have one? Cheers and thanks for posting the link to your pages as I had lost it.

Shane

Hi Shane,

The HD engines where not so good. Halfway of the production there was a modification. They then used pressure lubrication. With that modification the oil filters also changed. It could be that you have an old manual and a "new" tractor. Don't know what kind of lubrication my A16 has. Have to take a look in the barn.
Sincerely,

Niels
