I"m new to all this (boards, rebuilding, caring for an antique). Just bought s/n WA57729. It was in service until three winters ago. not frozen, sound like a valve may be leaking. I plan to rebuild during the upcoming VT winter. Would like to correspond by email with someone who might give me some guidance.

Early question: How do I get the flywheels off?

And another: I need a cart/dolley. I see new ones in Gas Engine Magazine for $250 or so. Any guidance on this subject?

Many thanks.

Charlie

Re: Lauson 2.5 Follow-Up in reply to Charlie Lowman, 09-01-2004 05:30:46
Pulled the head and magneto. Exhaust valve was nasty. Re-seated and lapped both valves. Bead blasted head. Cleaned mud wasp debris out of water passages. Spark plug was finger tight. Cut down a deep well socket to solve that problem. Magneto cleaned up well and sparks on the bench.

Am mystified by the apparently open high voltage connection between the two magneto coils. I see two little points of solid wire about 1/16th apart, centered between the two (new) coils. Is this a safety gap? Or did the previous owner burn off a connection that whould be solidly closed?

Would anyone care to comment on my efforts thus far?

Really need help with flywheel removal. I do not have a puller as such but can fab up something with a bit of helpful advice.

Thanks,

Charlie
