After holiday picnic, the kids went wandering and I had to go find them, in some bushes along a creek, was an old metal wheeled piece of machinery. It appeared to have a 2 cylinder flat head engine. The spark plugs must have been massive, the holes were almost 2 inches in diameter. The fuel tank and some other stuff was missing. This thing had a tricycle layout, but wheel at one end was much larger than the other two. The whole thing was about twelve feet long. there was no steering wheel and I suppose it was turned by a tiller. There were several gears exposed, the fly wheel was like a huge diameter worm gear and it engaged another gear in what appeared to be an exposed transmission. At the end of the one shaft was a small sprocket and a big sprocket on the big wheel. Everything was so rusted and corroded the one wheel rim was gone where it was in contact with the ground. I couldn't find a name anywhere. I didn't see a seat anywhere or even a place for one. There were two long levers sticking up. One went to a yoke arrangment next to the gears. The other lever had a rod that was attached to what may have been a valve of some kind. The whole thing was sitting in a swampy creek bottom. I'd be tempted to pull the thing out, but it is on military property. The folks we were visiting said the MP's get very upset when folks are down there. Something about unexploded ammunition. Heck there weren't any signs. My buddy said he'd seen the machine many years back when hunting with his father. His Dad said some guy in Clinton County Pa made two of them and went bust. The one there was used for parts to keep the other running. But that's all he knew.

I live just accross the Clinton Co. line in the Nippenose Valley, I would be interested in knowing more about these. Did you see it somewhere in Clinton Co.?

There were several old tractors built in that style. Email me if you'd like me to email you a drawing or two from an old tractor book.
