I have a two wheel drive Long tractor (model 510)
and noticed the other day that the trumpets (axle housings)were ever so loose from the differential housing. They are now tight. The question I have concerns checking the rear for oil and changing it out. I can see the drain for the rear (it's right under the jackpot)but don't know where it gets checked from. Does the transmission fluid lubricate the rear like my 8N ford? Any help would be appreciated. Until I get this straightened out, the tractors not moving. I don't need to be replacing the rear for lack of fluid. Many thankx.

The final drives are separate from the transmission and rear end. The fill and level is the back lower hex plug on the finals. Use 90 wt. or 140 wt. rearend oil. It is possible to drain them somewhat if you remove the stabilizer chains and the bolt they are connected to.

The oil in transmission lubes rear end as well as provides oil for hydraulic system. I am not sure about a 510 but many Longs have a dipstick on the right top of the transmission to check the oil level.
