Well I didn't find any trace of a s/n tag or stamping on the frame rail. I did find traces of red paint on the rear and engine. I have the mag bolts soaking so I can remove it to see the casting number on the block. Did all the Avery's have the emblem on the hood? This one has no holes in the hood where the emblem would be. The front and left rear tires are Wards which has me leaning towards what I have is a Wards tractor, but I know that's not definitive.

That little history page that Gene Davis mentioned is in the "articles" section here in the left hand margin. You can email me at mballash@wci.ab.ca if you wish.

I have a seriaal # confirmed,1947 Avery A sitting in my bone pile and it has an emblem that says AVERY on the top of the radiator shell at the front of the tractor. It also has 2 foot brake pedals on the right side. There is a guy on this site that posts under the name of Alberta Mike and if you e-mail him he will send you a short history of the Cletrac-Avery- MM saga. Gene Davis

What you have is either a Cletrak General,Wards Twin Row or an early BF Avery A.If General or Twin Row there will be a metal tag on right side rail close to the rear of tractor,if Avery the serial # is stamped in the top of the frame right rail near the rear of tractor. These style BF Avery's did not have the emblem on the hood.
Here is the address of the BF Avery Collectors.

The casting dates near the pan under the mag will tell you a casting year, but wont tell if its an avery, wards or general. The dates are normally like this day-month-year.The old tractors did not have emblems or decals the lettering was painted on.
