I was just given what I believe is a Wards or maybe Avery tractor. It has a Hercules engine, a single front wheel which has a cast center. The rear wheels are 24 inch, they have cast centers as well. It has hand brakes. It has Wards tires on it. I couldn't find an id tag or serial number. I did post some pictures under Help Identify. If anyone could tell me what I have I'd appreciate it.

If the magneto is original, the distributor is listed as first being used in 1946,so it must be earlier than '46 Gene Davis

Thanx for all the posts guys.
I did find some red paint on the engine.
I wasn't sure where to look for the serial number, I'll look at it again tomorrow, report the s/n and or casting number(s). The engine is a 1xk3 Hercules, Eng. No. 688511. I think it'll be a few years before it's ready for a show, I have too many irons in the fire already. I would like to get the head off the engine, the exhaust was open and it's full of water.

That's the correct engine. That casting date is there also, just ahead of that engine serial plate. I have not derived a way to date the engines from their serial numbers. That's too bad about the engine. The rest of the tractor looks to be straight and complete though.

I won't know how bad it is unil I take off the head. The hood and fenders are straight however the bottoms are rusted away where they attach to the frame. It's fixable...I guess, with enough time and money.

Yes, Fenders for those can be tough. You are lucky that the curved part is good. The bottom is not as hard to fix.

You are on the right track !! Check the comments on your first picture in the help identify section. I posted some info there for you. If you can find the serial number, post it. Also forgot to tell you if it turns out to be a BF Avery A, the serial number will be stamped on top of the right frame rail, near the back. If it is the earlier General or Twinrow, it will be on an aluminum tag on the side of the frame.
