My son in law has a chance to buy a "70" model Long 360 or 460 tractor for $500. He said the only thing that he knows wrong with it is that the 3pt hich won't work. He said other than that, it has good rubber, runs good and the metal is in fair shape. Can someone give us information on this tractor? Would it be worth the money and what would be the first thing to look for concerning the Hyd system.
Thanks for any help.

I have 260C Long that has a steering problem. The steering wheel moves around many times without the tires turning. It will finally turn, but it takes too many turns of the steering wheel. Can someone give me suggestions on where to start looking?

I have a Long tractor. It is a 4 cylinder diesel. The plate says it produces 50 hp at 2400 rpm. Don't know what model it is. Anyone like to hazard a guess? I think it is a 560 but don't know. I can't find the name of the folks in Tarborow, NC that made it.
Thanks,
Wayne

My experience with Long doesn't go back that far, but I have a 510 (mid-80's) model that has been a nice tractor. Hydralics is a common problem with these tractors because the fluid is not changed when it is recommended. Most often the filter is simply clogged. They claim it can be washed and reused, but I had to replace the one in mine. If the tractor is still availabe and you decide not to buy it please email me.

It may very well have been made by Fiat. I don't remember the numbers very well, but the smaller tractors were Fiat, the middle sized ones by Massey Fergusen Landini (Italy). All good tractors.

It is at least a 1977-78 model. My dad bought a new 360 in 1978 and I am still using it today. It has held up well. Hydraulics is a weak area on the Longs. Your problem could be a simple one, however. Most of mine have been. I have also had a 1976 445 since 1981. They both have had similar problems, but nothing that I would consider major. If you need any help, I will try to answer your questions.

Grab it fast! That tractor is a steal.

Now, if it's a 360 or 460, it's not a 1970 production model, because the 350 and 445, which the 360 and 460 replaced, were still in production in at least 1974, and probably later. If it's a 360 or 460, then count on it being more likely about a '79.

As for the 3PTH, there are a few things that could be wrong with it. Email me for tips on this.
