Posted March 10/03 I have a Huber road maintainer, model year unknown. It has a hercules 6 cyl. engine that is in need of repair. A valve job to be more exact.
And I would like to know how to find the vintage & where I could get manuals or any printed info. Can any one help me? Thanks. Lou

Although this is a lot later (Dec 1, 03) if you are as slow as me you are not done. Hercules furnished power for lots of equipment builders. John Deere combines up to self propelled in the late 50's & early sixties used Herks and most any motor machine shop can help you fix yours or you can find replacement in lots of old farmers fields. Good Luck

My family is in the process of restoring a huber maintainer with a hercules engine. We are ready to start it up but do not know what the firing order is or which wire on the cap is number one. Thanks for any help. Troy Davis

look behind the cap where the wires go into the magneto, there should be a number 1 for number one cyl. thats all I know.

Troy:
1-5-3-6-2-4 Find a cylinder that has both valves closed with the piston at Top Dead Center. The distributor points will be in contact at some point, and that cylinder will be where you start from. Probably your machine is running by now, so this is all history. I recently got my Hercules running.

The serial number should be on a metal plate riveted to the frame. If you can e-mail the number I will try to help you out.
