Avery A hand crank question ...

I've asked this question here before but the suggested fix just doesn't seem to work so I'll try again. The front portion of the hand crank on my '45 Avery A was broken off when I got the tractor. When I dismantled the tractor last fall, I removed what's left of the crank by sliding in out rearwards through the steering box that it goes through. I want to remove the crank hub and flexible pin that grip the front pulley location from the remnants of the shaft. Earlier, one of the guys here on the forum said that the hub was screwed onto the shaft with a left-hand thread. I'm not sure why it would have a left-hand thread since cranking clockwise (from the front of the tractor) would tend to back-off on the thread while a right-hand thread would tend to tighten things when cranking. Anyways, I just can't seem to remove it in either direction, whether it be a left or right-hand thread, if in fact it is threaded on at all. And I've really put a lot of muscle to it. When I finally do get this off, I want to fabricate another hand crank from scratch reusing the hub. Any other suggestions or solutions would be welcomed. Is it maybe a press fit? Does anyone know for sure just how this thing is attatched?

The guy was partially right. Those hubs are definatly threaded on if it is the original. They are right hand thread as you have speculated. I would heat the ---- out of it, and try wrenching it off again. If you drop me an e-mail, I will give you the name and e-mail of a guy who might have a good crank he would sell you.

Thanks Esev ... I'll give it another try, maybe file some surfaces flat for a better grip ... meanwhile I'll email you and maybe get that guy's number if this thing doesn't want to budge.

The crank is threaded on ,right hand very fine thread so when it get tight it is very hard to get off.I would heat in a big vice and use a big pipe wrench,a little loosening oil too.
