no exhaust pipe? the muffler was under the hood.
and ours had the nf, no hydraulics.
when oliver came out with the hydrolectric system dad had it converted over.
the electric part was a living nightmare, 'if', you could get-it/keep-it working it was great.
every time the plow unhooked on a rock?
rehook plow, climb off, get rag, clean off dirt, replug, go untill it happened, again/again/again.
thank GOD for the spring trip bottms, stop/backup/reset, go was a blessing lol.

Nice comment about "brain damaged twits' painting the wheels and grills on their supers white to make them look updated. In the States, particularly Iowa, farmers and dealers did do that. As a matter of fact my dad had a Fleetline 77 diesel painted that way. It was not just Oliver owners. You could find older John Deeres and Farmalls painted with the latest paint colors or schemes. Back in the 50s and 60s there were very few if any "correctness police." If anything the neighbors would be more interested in any modfications that had been made to increase the power, change the hydraulics, etc.

rotflmao = a black & blue john deere, "after' geting in the same field with an oliver.... yup.
i dont recall the others being off colored in southern michigan.
a few idiots will paint a good running oliver some crap color because they are sick of seeing them kick butt in the antique pulls.... but they are runnig them anyway? lmao.

this 1 is a 1956 vintage, they stoped painting the wheels red that year.
i always thought it ruined the looks of the olivers.
"THEN", some brain damaged twitt decided that if the grill/wheels were "WHITE"???
it would make them worth more money used because they looked "UPDATED"!

sorry, been ther and dunit.
i can not find a decent picture of the 1954 super 88 with the red wheels.
oliver changed the wheel color in 1955.
"IF', see a 'look-a-like'? its surrounded with other equipment.
i prefer one seting in the field or working.
hpoca had these tractors plowing a few years back, but, that site is no longer there.

The Super 88 was introduced late in 1954 to replace the 88. The wheels for the Super series were green instead of red, but switched to red after Jan. 1 1957.

Many people preferred the red wheel of the fleetline series, thus the switch.

It is well known that many of the green wheeled Super series were painted red at the dealerships and by the owners as soon as they got them.

'maybe', but ours wasnt. 'i scratched them a few times and there was no green paint under the red.
sorry bout that.
fyi? it came new with 18.5 low profile 38's.
i took this old girl over upon delivery in 09-07-1954 and we set the precident for the neighbors with ther farmalls & 2 lungers to follow since they couldnt lead lol.

I actually prefer the red wheels and front grille strips on Fleetlines and green on Supers.Green just seems to go with the updated style frame w/flat mounting surfaces.

i "NEVER" could understand the reasoning for striping off the side panels.
smashing the grill was 'another' pet peeve.
if you hit the grill? you was not paying attention to your driving.
in all my years of running oliver's i never buggered 1 up.
why hasnt the ole girl been 'RESTORED'?

Oh yeah,she runs strong.You shoulda seen the tractor when I got it,no grille,center strip,WHITE wheels(yuk),etc,etc.

I bought one of the missing sides from ebay,another at a farm auction,looking for more.

I'm restoring our 1650 gas now,next is an 88 rc diesel,then this Super 77.Only 24 more Ollies to go! ~brad

Did you have a bad day today Gail? So far you have probably managaed to po the editors of the 2 best Oliver magazines in the world. Sherry does have a picture of a Super 88 on her website. I just looked at it. Now it probably won't meet your standards because it is a diesel and even though it is out in a field there is somebody sitting on it.:>)

I'm not quetioning your 50 years of Oliver experience in New Zeland, but here in the States they made the early supers with green wheels and then changed back to red wheels because the farmers liked red better. Maybe though when they exported them down under to New Zeland and Australia they did it just the other way around. :>)

There are a lot of pictures on the HPOCA photo gallery and I'm pretty sure you can find a red wheel super 88.

FYI "BILL": i was with my dad the day OUR Super88 came into Seyberts Oliver Sales in Coldwater, Michigan direct from South Bend Indiana.
WITH RED WHEELS including the center cast hubs on the front.
the center rear wheel hub was green and the nut/bearing cap on the front was green.
i was 13 years old at the time and i spent the next 6 years in the seat, washing and waxing it.
you want to see the UNTOUCHED PICTURE???

a bad day? kinda/sorta. for some strange reason 'nobody' in the HPOCA complex will reply to an email.
sorry, all i found was the fleetline series.
annnnnd from the 1947 rowcrop series thru the fleetline series with the 1954 super series?
the wheels were red.... from the factory.
they went to green in 1955.
also the raised strip down the center of the hood on the fleetline's was yellow to the gas cap.
annnnd i was born in coldwater, michigan, USA in 1941.
we did all of our oliver dealings with seybert oliver sales in coldwater = KIETH SHERMAN. = a cigar chewer lol.
farmed with my dad untill 1981.

FYI, i was not trying to upset the troops.
