I am looking for a source for a carb kit for 1800C serial no. 138-810-844. The carb is a Marvel Schebler and it is stamped USX 37. Thanks, Pete

Pete: I am working on a carburetor article for a future HPOCA magazine. To help with the article I picked up an officail Marvel Carburetor parts catalog. It will tell right in that catalog you will need to go to your friendly(?) Deere dealer for some unlisted parts as they are not furnished thru normal suppliers. I also have some rebuild instructions I can snail mail. Make sure you have a vacuum gauge to check the carburetor while it is apart. Also send a list of parts needed. More questions? J.

Hi John,
I am about to take off and rebuild two 550 carbs. and it seems others have the same Winter project.

Looking back over your various carb articles and thoughts, you always mention vacuum gauges as a diagnostic tool.

1) Can you recommend a model and make of vacuum gauge to buy? A quick search on eBay shows me 100s of the darn things in all shape and sizes. Confusing!
2) If you have a moment, can you explain to us newbies how you use it exactly? And what the readings tell us?

Many thanks, Chris

O. K. Chris: I will send you an e-mail over the weekend. Now he will need the vacuum gauge to check his acceleraor pump jet. You do not have that. I guess the last place I would look for a gauge is on e-bay. I have had or used several. They ranged from army surplus, to sears to a free one (a gift) A GOOD parts store should have one. J.
