What were the differences between the Oliver 88 diesel and the Super 88 diesel tractors? I recently aquired one that has disc brakes, and the frame with the 2 pads on each side along with the cultivator holes. Says "88" on the front of grill. Missing side shields and can't find a S/N number plate on the dash like my 770 Oliver. Any ideas?

How much time do you have? Get me the casting numbers off the block and then go around to the other side where the little copper line goes to the oil pressure gauge and read the engine serial number. Did you look for a serial number plate below the transmission cover on the right side in case somebody put this together? Also does your hood have a big battery door, is it key start? Then post here> J.

The engine has a tag. Model 190GL,... Size 3-3/4 x 4,.... Gov Sp 1750,... The cast number on the left rear side of the block is 190320 and K100C,.... But the bore is only 3-1/2 inch. Rebuilt with wrong sleeves/pistons?,.... There is no port for a tach drive like on a 880 block,.... On the right side of the block upside down towards the rear top is 10-12-50,.... Battery box lid for 2 batterys, 6 volt type. Cover is somewhat big, but nothing to compare it to,.... The engine has a double oil filter assy mounted horizontally,... Clutch is 10 inch but will accept a 11 inch,... The intake doesn't have the name Oliver cast into it,... The head has 2 numbers, K180A and 191202,... The frame has 2 cultivator holes and 2 pads on each side plus the front mounting plate for weights,... Says 88 on top of grill,... Paint is worn badly but green and clover white wheels,... Has Disc brakes,.... Starter is from a 88 as determined by S/N of starter,... No key on dash, but there is a manual starter switch thru the dash on left, plus a manual starter rod to starter,... Light switch is a 5 position one,.... No S/N plate on the dash nor on the right side frame and can't see where any has ever been.

Distributor port casme out in the spring of 52 if I remember correctly. It is an 88 block. For the Oliver engines there are no Waukesha tags. Your right hand manual starter switch is the preheater switch, has nothing to do with the starter. Just for fun, pull one of the brake covers and in the center of the bull pinon see if there is a hex nut in there. Also measure the diameter of the rear axle. You do have a super frame. I think I will also send you an e-mail. J.

The hole inside the bull pinion has a threaded shaft with a nut on it. The rear axles are 2 and 3/4 inch diameter.

I would say it is a 1952 88 with a Super front frame. Maybe a transplanted engine as well. Does you engine have an engine serial number? Also read the tag off the injection pump. By the way: are both manifolds on the same side of the engine? J.

The tag on the engine says "Waukesha Gasoline Engine",... the S/N of the engine is 843887,... Lot 515,... The injection pump is missing so I don't have a tag, but believe it was a Bosch pump. The intake manifold is on the right side of the engine and the exhaust manifold is on the left side. Double oil filters,.... Any further ideas?

That tag is for a gas engine, not an Oliver diesel. Somebody put a bunch of parts together. How do I contact you? J.

Howdy,... That's what I figured. Since the blocks were esentially the same, and the other gas/diesel parts can be interchanged, that is most likely what happened. I can be E-Mailed at [email protected] or cell anytime is (207)538-7583. I would really like to pick your brain over the phone. E-Mail your phone and I'll call you if that is better. "COWBOY"
