My uncle has a an Oliver 77 and it has a brass clutch pedal and a brass throttle. Most of these are cast iron. I was just wondering why his would have been made of brass?

I remember a few of them being around as well. They were older 77 models in the time frame of 77 production. Can you give us the serial number. Some "alternate vendors" were used durring the Korean war because of restrictions. Clutches and carburetors with different vendors comes to my mind real quick like. J.

I had one with brass. It was the one that I drove home from Archbold. Sherry had mentioned them once in an article. I don't remember the reason for it,maybe it was like you said and had to do with the Korean war. I just remember her saying there weren't many. Kind of like the aluminum hoods.I don't think mine was a real early one,51 or so,still had band brakes. But the 51 I have now doesn't have them.I wanna say the brake pedals were brass on that one too. I know I had trouble with the splines stripping out of one of them.Seems like it was because of the soft brass.

Rick: I think you are correct on the brake petals. You could always tell the throttle and clutch petal because they would be shinny and no rust.

I was mistaken on the stripped splines though. They didn't have splines on the band brakes. There was a rod to a lever. The lever must have been what was stripped out. Got rid of that thing 31 years ago so my memory is hazier on that one than on life in general.
