So, I finally got a start on my 1650 project for this winter. I figured I'll keep everyone posted on my progress since this if the first tractor I'm going to totally tear down to the castings and build back up.

As of this past weekend, I have the rearend down to the casting, ordered all my bearings and seals, and am working on cleaning everything up, deburing, and chasing the threaded holes. More pictures to come over xmas break!

Looks good! When I had my 1600 blasted I had the tub and tires still together so it could be rolled around. I did have to have it split though and replace the tub, and I had pretty much everything stripped down about as far as you do. Lots and lots of work to put it back togther afterwards...

How did you get it stripped down so clean? Sandblasted? In winter?

Yup, two hours of sand blasting + 7 bags of sand got it that clean. I use the abrasive blasting media from Menards which I think is coal slag. The stuff cuts really fast and is really good for cast. I find it's so much easier working on stuff that's clean.
