My Super 88 Gas Oliver would not start Friday. It had been grinding occasionally like teeth gone on the flywheel. It finally laid down.In the starter behind the starter drive is a collar between the armature and drive gear that is broken into two pieces.Napa looked up my Delco Remy number 11070743K19 which called for 6561085(Napa number)starter drive with 9 teeth. My Starter drive has 10 teeth and doesen't even look like the Napa 6561085 drive and don't show this piece with it.There is an inner collar with a bolt hole 24-3/8 thread with a bolt that holds a spring in place,it is the mate to it that is broke opposite the armature. The inner diameter is 1 1/32 approxamatly and the outer is 1 7/32 on the collar. These two collars lock together.Would one of you guys have one of these or know where to find one? Also what would be the correct name for it?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I looked in a parts book for your starter. The collar on the driver through which the screw goes was not furnished seperately. The washers are Delco part #1902736 lockwashers Oliver part # B-7723 which means they were introduced on the model 70 tractor so almost any gas starter out of a junk yard so to speak will have that part. The part for the drive is Delco 1850844 Oliver part #B-7716. Where are you located. There is a place in sothwest Ohio that caters to obsolete electrical items. Hope this helps. J.

That spring you're describing sounds like the one on my 1550 and 1600. I broke the one on the 1550 two years ago and had about the same problem at Car Quest. They could get the whole bendix, but not the spring. I had a Case starter here with what looked like the same spring, but the loops for the bolts were smaller. I went to the local starter shop and he had a couple of used ones. Gave him $10 for one. Doesn't help you I know, but might sreer you in the right direction, like try a 1550 and get the whole bendix.

Your right there, you know what I am talking about. This female locking coupler/collar looks to be well aged along with being broken and no part number on it.Starters aren't my strongpoint right now,my 20 hp Vanguard Briggs engine spun the gear right off the shaft too sitting in the same shop same day.

Just for the heck of it I looked in my super 88 parts book and the Delco number doesn't match up to anything in there. Then I tried to figure out what you are in need of, and I ended up "out in left field".

It sound to me like you need a new starter bendix.

If it was mine I would take the complete starter to a electrial repair shop, and tell them to fix it.

I appreciate you looking for me and trying to find out what it is.There is no telling what I have according to the serial number.According to Napa he said the rebuilders throw the housings in a bin and pull them out as they need them interchanging parts.Oliver Fan,I had a good reputable rebuilder rebuild this one and he charged me 70+ bucks about 1 year ago to the date. There is a locking washer that has two tabs that bend locking a bolt in place that goes through a recoiled spring. One tab bends up against the bolt head and the other bent against the coil spring loop. What happened was the rebuilder didn't have one of these tabs bent properly and the bolt that held the spring came loose letting the bendix loose from the shaft tearing up the threads. Also broke the female collar.

Did you check your fly wheel to see if it had all the teeth left on it I would think something would not mesh if there was a change in tooth count maby I am wrong
