I am rebuilding this tractor for a neighbor. When I pulled the head off I found three hair-line cracks. Two of the cracks go from the water hole in the middle of the block to #3 sleeve and one to #2 sleeve. The third crack goes between #1 and #2 sleeve. Do I need to start looking for a different block? Will these let water into the oil, or will the o rings on the sleeves stop the water. I have some good pictures of the cracks if someone can tell me how to post them on here.

Thanks Nebraska K

I worry about one other thing which is also repairable with not too much work. More later in the week. A lot blocks have the block cracked like in the lower photo. J.

Was it leaking previously? Are you changing the sleeves? Did they cause any trouble with the gasket previously? I would think there are a lot of similar cracks out there. They can be repaired but I would not worry if nothing is being disturbed and they have not caused any problems. Could have been there years.

Thanks guys that makes me feel better. I have no idea if it was giving any trouble before. There was another man working on this tractor before me but he became ill and passed away. The tractor has set for many years at his place and there is no way of knowing what he found when he first took it apart.

Thanks for the info guys
