Can The 1000 RPM PTO Be Changed To 540 PTO

Yes. on the 1855, the shaft is held in by 4 bolts. Remove them and pull the 1000 RPM stub shaft out, and then on the lower right hand side of the back cover, there is a shifter. There is a bolt that holds it in place from the bottom, and it had 3/8-16 threads in the end of the shifter to stick a bolt in it. Shift it to 540 (pull it out) and stick the 540 stub shaft in. I find it often helps to stick the stub in partially to turn the gears a little bit so they"ll line up.

There is a button in there as a safety feature, so the 540 shaft can"t be used when it"s set to run 1000 RPM.

Yes. Snap ring holds in shaft. Remove it and pull shaft. Lower right side of rear-ed housing has and push pull lever. Loosen jam nut, and pull pin to out position. You should feel a slight snap which means it is right position.
