I bought a 7300 combine yesterday that's been sitting for a while and the clutch won't release. I drove it home by starting it in gear, tried over and over to break it loose by holding the pedal down and hitting the brakes. She's just not gonna come loose without surgery. Does anybody know if that thing will come apart from the side by taking off the left drive wheel,or am I in for a major project?

I put a new clutch in my 7300 last winter. I took the wheel, and some shields off to open things up. Its heavy, but the variable speed pulley, shaft, and bellhousing will come off as one unit. I got parts from Maibach, they might be able to fax you a page out of the manual to help you out.

It's been about 17 years since I worked on one, but I do know I put a clutch in one without taking the wheel off in the middle of a guys yard by myself. So it's not a terrible job. Taking the wheel off would give you more room.

I've been under it. I kind of looks like that skid plate/guard needs to be taken off. I wonder if you could just drill a 1 inch hole in the bottom of the cast housing and get a big screwdriver up in there, then bolt a plate over it,like an inspection plate? It's dry in there isn't it?

I can tell you it is SUPPPOSED to be dry. But you never know...

If you are talking about that sheet metal below the sheaves you don't have to take that off. At least you don't on the 535 and 545.
