I am rebuilding the Continental engine in an Oliver 70. The original main bearings had a single flange, with a thrust washer on the opposite side. The thrust washer has 3 brass dows to hold it in position. The replacement front bearing is a straight shell type, with no flange, and 2 thrust washers. There are no dows in the block or cap. Can this inner thrust washer simply float, or will I need to drill the cap or block for dows to prevent it spinning, and wearing on the block surface? Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have a 70 engine with nearly new 3.25 pistons and sleeves. I was planning to sell the engine when my pulling engine is completed. We could probably work a trade cheaper than the cost of a good rebuild.

Call or email if you are interested.

Thanks,

J.R.
I can't help you and apparently nobody else can. Mabey try Larry Harsins' site. He has an "ask the Mechanic" page there.

Good Luck, Larry NE IL
