Oil filter for oliver RC 60

then i started looking for oil filters. what a nightmare.

the filter i took off of it was a wix 51105. so i
found a wix 51105. but it isn't the same size. it's longer
and my engine side panels won't shut with it on there. the
filter extends beyond the engine enclosure.

i found a shorter filter -- hastings 405, but i'm
afraid that it's too short. the olver 60 has a needle which forces the oil into and through the filter
this filter is 4.25 inches long. the needle extends
4.125 inches. not much additional room.

have i got the right filter?? any suggestions??

follow-up..... ..... .

i bought a wix 50115 and the hastings. the rubber gasket
that came with the wix filter is probably twice as thick as
the gasket that comes with the hastings filter. i put the wix gasket on the hastings filter which gave me an extra
1/8 inch of length to work with. it mounted fine, doesn't leak and seems to be working fine.

i haven't yet found the NAPA, Baldwin or Fram filters that
have been recommended. the hastings filter is really not the right one. i will keep looking till i find the filter
that fits like it's supposed to.

why do you suppose wix changed the dimensions of their 50115 filter??

My Baldwin filters book shows 2 filters for an Oliver 60

These are Baldwin filter numbers
Lube PT302
Lube T303-M

The Baldwin book also shows that that a Wix 51105 crosses over to the Baldwin PT302

The only thing I don't know is the dimensions of the PT302 they are not listed.

My brother told me the answer to this a couple of years ago, lets see if I get it right. It seems like you have to add a "W" as a suffix or a prefix to the filter number to get the correct one. Try it both ways and see if it comes up as a valid WIX number. Good Luck!

Randy, I don't know if this is what you want to hear but my Dad ran into the same problem almost 30 years ago. They apparently stopped making the factory filter, or at least he couldn't get it any more. My Dad's solution was to cut a very neat, tight fitting ciruclar hole in the side cover. His was a farm tractor and that didn't create any problems. Obviously if you are restoring for show thats not the way to go, but all I know is that's what he had to do.
