Since I am now an owner of a 1964 770 gas row-crop, I was curious as to the engine. Did Oliver build this engine at its' factory in Charles City, Iowa? Or is this engine a Waukesha, which I believe was built in Wisconsin? Was the diesel version built by Oliver? At any rate, I find it a very smooth-running tractor.

Rick's reply in simple terms is correct. Now also be advised that Waukesha sold a diesel engine in simple terms that used some of the same parts but had a different combustion chamber and fuel system

They were Waukesha. Gas and diesel. I guess they were Oliver designed, cast in Charles City and sent to Waukesha to be machined and finished.

was there any other firing order used for the the gas engine as I have a 1964 770 as well that doesn"t like to fire on the 153624 sequence.

No 153624 is almost a standard firing order for a 6 cylinder inline engine.
