Can someone help me on the correct color for the "OLIVER" letters that are on the elevator of a Number 5 Oliver one-row picker? I'm painting mine, but the color on the lettering on the elevator is so faded I can't tell if it was red, or yellow? Alternatively, is there a source that might have a reproduction of this in a decal?

Thanks everyone for the input. I will try calling Dumonts, and see what they have. Another question.....not that it matters so much, I guess, but what is the correct shade of yellow and red to use on Oliver equipment from the 1950's? Is the red close to MF red? The yellow close to JD yellow? Any advice appreciated.

Dumont's have the paint codes and decals you need. Just ask them when you call.

Have a picture of a replica of an Oliver Corn Picker that I thought you would enjoy I could email to you. The picture shows the letters on the elevator. Unfortunately, I cannot attach the picture to the reply.

Thanks, I will post the serial number shortly. I'm guessing mine is a fairly old #5, as the decal looks to date from the early to mid 50's, maybe. From your description, I'm thinking that the OLIVER letters are supposed to be yellow?

You are the only person that can tell what decal you need on your corn picker. The reason I say that is because Oliver used three different decals on the corn pickers from 1951 to 1955. All three decals had the word OLIVER in yellow. The first decal had a red back ground with the yellow letters, and it was all part of the decal. The second decal had three short yellow lines before and after the word OLIVER. The third decal only had the OLIVER name with nothing else before, after or around it.

You might check with Dumont's (641-622-2592) to see if they have the decals you want.

Noy they made #5 poickers a looong time. I don't know about the first ones but I recall working on more of the yellow decaled ones and of course the later ones were white. You may want to do a little checking and perhaps Mr. Starr or Oliver fan can help you with a picture. It may help them if you also list a serial number. J.
