My family is thinking about getting a newer combine. Our present combine is a White 8600 with 4x38" corn head & 13' grain table. I know little about the Case-IH, and know even less about the John Deeres. We are wanting to get a simmilar size combine, but want to change to a 6 row 30" corn head. We also want a 4 wheel drive and working A/C. Thinking about a '90s model, $30,000-$40,000? Can anyone give some suggestions on what models would be close to the 8600? Any opinions on what would be a good replacement? Thanks, Stu.

Thanks for the comments, I was thinking that a 1660 would be about what we wanted. As far as the 8600, we are going to hang on to it as a back-up. Hard to part with an old friend, we have had it since 1983. Stu.

For John Deere before they change the model numbers I would say a 6620 with 643 corn head (6 is the number of rows and 3 is 30 in row width). Depending on what your in you could run grain tables from 13 foot to 18 foot, here about 16 footers are what most use.

Ive got a11 92 model 1660 just turned over 2000 hrs paid 28,000 couple years ago w 22ft rigid head. Had very little things give trouble. Put shaker shoe bushings in couple hyd lines and hoses. nice cab and a lot simpler to work on than the deere I had before. Header height works great on theflex head for soybeans. Wish I HAD the lateral tilt for terraces. Good luck.

If you are going to a IH combine, you will love it. To replace your 8600 and run a 6 row head you need a 1660 or larger. I would recomend the newer 1660 or 1680 wih the cummins engine and a specialy rotor and chopper. They normally sell in the price range you quoted. I work on IH combines and most all the new stuff will go on the older machine if you want to update it. Also you never have to worry about (tin) getting thin as the hole rotor and cage are fully replacable and lots of aftermarket parts are avaible, hope this helps you, Mike.
