Ok, I had trouble removing plug, but I was able to put pressure gauge on. With pto engaged, nothing happens. Raising 3 point nothing happens. I hooked up to round baler. At first it would not raise cylinder. Gauge was reaching 2800 psi. I reconnected and it did operate cylinder. During normal lift operation it seems to register below 2000 psi. At top of stroke it reaches 2800 psi. Also the connections on left side remote were very difficult to release. I had to put a wrench behind fitting and tap with hammer. Seemed like excessive pressure in line. I am not sure about this, though. Thanks for helping me this far.

Right nowI am out of state on a borrowed computer. I will not be back untill Monday evening except Friday for a few hours. Get rid of that 2800 by removing shims from the relief valve till you get 2000 PSI to start with. J.

I used type A transmision oil per one of manuals I first purchased. Have come to find out after a little research ,it has a lower viscosity then recommended for normal. OK, I was thinking if I am redoing hydraulic pump I will make change. well more is in lines than you might think. It is also in all my equiptment. Let me tell you, it foams like crazy when you make the change. Ok J. Schweibert, sorry, I have multiple problems. Please help as you can.

That type A trans fluid goes in the hydra power 2 speed, not the hydraulic system.

The reason I used type A in Hydraulic Unit is because on page 138, paragraph 394 of the I&T shop manual for the Oliver 1850 it says recommended fluid is SAE 10W Supplement 1 engine oil or Type A Automatic Transmission Fluid. This paragraph is talking about the hydraulic lift system.

How the answer to the original question: What pressure do you have just driving the tractor using no hydraulics? The PTO has no affect on what you are doing. Yes you should pressure when use move the baler gate, but only what it takes to so the job. Is it a one way cylinder?

You are correct on the type A fluid. It was in the operators manual for a while. Are your 3 point arms up or down? This 2800 pounds what are you doing with the tractor when you see it on the gauge? Are any of the cylinders you are trying to use single acting cylinders?

I was lifting gate on a round baler. 2800 pounds at top or bottom of lift. I have that fixed now. I did like you said and removed shims. What is strange is I ended up putting them all back in. Now gauge tops at 1900. I noticed plunger was worn where it was seating. I ordered a replacement along with seat and crushwasher and o-ring. It says in manual I can fish seat and washer out with a wire. Correct? I have another question. Should gauge be reading at all when cylinder is lifting. It is showing something over 1000 pounds as cylinder raises. I ran tractor a little with hayrake. So just three point and pto in use. I used your suggestion and checked temperature at 136 F degrees after little use. I ran about 5 gallons of agco hydraulic fluid thru to flush system. I changed filter. It had a good amount of metal in it. I am hoping from pump I replaced. Also I changed breather element. What I removed looked like a stack of laminations.
