540 3 point lift and governor issues

I have recently purchased a 540. At the time it was missing the hydraulic pump. I located one and replaced the pump, filled it with oil and made sure all of the connections and lever linkages are in place. However the lift only works intermittently. Some times it will raise and lower fine and the next minute it will do neither. In another possibly related issue, I was able to do some plowing with it; however it didn't seem that the governor was regulating the engine properly when under a heavy strain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Mike, give me a call regards your 540. I make reproduction 3 point hitch parts and pto shields for Cockshutt and have some experience with the 540/550 system. It is a good draft control with the valve receiving a signal for draft as well as the position of the rockshaft and the location of the lever. The governor may be binding in the linkages if it is hunting. Call me at 613-987-9967

Regards

Neil
