I had the hood off to replace the leaky over/under cooler line, and while I had the hood off I hooked in the fender tanks. Only took me about 1 1/2 hours time and about $75 for the new valves (originals were gone), new pipe nipples, 15' of 3/8 fuel line, hose barbs, a pair of 90 deg. street L's, and the clamps, and maybe a few other things.I plumbed it into the return port on the top of the tank and then put the T right by the hydraulics on the right side. I put a couple gallons in and went plowing for about a 1/2 hour, and so far so good. I got home and loosened the main tank cap (non-vented) and it had a slight vacume, but not so much as to get me worried. Looks like I now made it possible to put well over $300 worth of fuel in it in one stop... Coulda used them when I was chopping corn, but now hopefully I can run a little through them while doing the fall plowing. Still got 1 more small field to chop as well so I may just run the fenders empty doing it all.
I do have a problem with the headlights though. I turned them on tonight and the left fender didn't want to work on the original light harness. I switched the same wire to the new circuit for the extra lights, and the bulb works on the new circuit so it's somewhere in the old wiring up to the fender connection.
I'm also having problems with the extra lights. If I have the front and back lights on I'll blow a fuse, I think I even blew a 30 amp fuse. If I use just the 2 back ones, I'm fine. I disconnected the back lights and tried running just the fronts tonight, but as soon as I revved it up a little after fueling up the fuse blew again. What really gets me is as soon as I got them hooked up, I spent a good 2 hours with them on hooking onto the chopper, greasing it, and then opening up a corn field in the dark. I turned them off for the road trip home, pulled the switch once back in the driveway and the fuse blew. Been giving me problems ever since. I'm thinking it could be the fuse holder itself, because I've also had problems with the other one I instaled in the dash for the electric spout I rigged up on our Fox 3000. I blew a 15A fuse on that as well this season while chopping corn, but I've had this set-up for 3-4 years already with an in-line fuse holder down by the battery and bever blew a fuse. I found the original fuse holders I replaced on my 1600 during the restore, so I may pull the dash apart and try them instead, and see what happens. Donovan from Wisconsin
