My 1650D started acting like the fuel filters were plugged. Runs excellent then does not misfire, but just slows down until it dies. Fires right up and runs great for about 30 seconds then does the same thing.

Cleaned the screen on the bowl. Bowl had some water in it. I changed primary and secondary filters. Removed inlet to injector pump and cleaned that screen and bleed. Fires right up and runs for 30 seconds then slowly slows down to an idle then dies. If I crack the bleed screw on top of the secondary filter I have all kinds of fuel pressure so I know the transfer pump is working (It was replaced about 3 months ago). Injector pump is about 5 years old.

It acts like it"s starving for fuel.
Any ideas? I"m in the middle of a job.

I recently had the same thing happen to me on my 1750 Diesel and it turned out to be the fuel pump. After installing a rebuilt pump ($1000.00) it runs fine.

You need to check the spring ball in the fitting above the injector pump in the return line. This preasure relief keeps preasure in the pump and they love to stick open. If the plastic ball is swelled you will have to replace. Other wise just clean it.

I replaced the valve you mentioned. It ran good for about 5 minutes then slowed to an idle and puffed black smoke then finally died. It did misfire this time on the way down like it had air in the lines. Bleeding the lines showed no air and made no difference.

If I let it sit a few minutes it firs right up and runs like a champ then slowly slows down and dies.

Is the hole in this the check valve suppose to have a small slot cur into the side of the hole allowing it to bleed some or is mine washed out?

Before I had read your reply I had removed the check valve and it was stuck open. I cleaned it and the tractor ran good for about 10 minutes and started the same thing. I guess it's time for a new one.

I"m inclined to think that the fuel tank isn"t vented. But for the life me can"t recall if it is supposed to be.

Good luck.

some one was talking on hear that if you dont have a tank vented right it will smash the tank trying to suck the fuel out of it I think they were taking about something with fuel tank fenders

Does it even with the fuel cap off so that shouldn"t be it. I seems to run longer when its cold, maybe 4 or 5 minutes wide open. Once it dies, I can run it maybe 30 seconds before it dies. I swear, acts just like a stopped up filter but I do have plenty of pressure.

I wonder if the transfer pump on the back of the injector pump is messed up or screen plugged. Anyone one been into a Roosa?

The pump was full of coffee grinds from the governor weight retainer ring coming apart. I tore it down, replaced it with a solid governor weight ring and set the roller clearance and reassembled. Runs great!

I bought the Roosa Service Manual, sela kit, solid weight ring, and the tools for $138 and it was about 1/8th the price the local injector shop was going to charge.

I rebuilt Bosch pumps before but my first time for a Roosa. About the easiest pump out there if you ask me. Now I have the tools!
