My Cockshutt 1850 steering is acting up. The steering is slow and the wheel tough to turn. However the steering is light and easy if I activiate any of the hydraulic levers. It does not matter if there are any attachments actually on the tractor. It would seem that the steering motor does not get adequate flow from the pump until I work one of the other controls. The reservoir is full but I have not changed the filter in a while. I have a spare 2 spool valve on my parts tractor but I thought I should ask if anyone had any thoughts before I burn a few hours changing parts.

Flow devider. I had to shim the spring, it helped.

Go for the flow divider first. There will be a 1/4 inch pipe plug in there. It will be a little hard to remove but take it out or change the flow divider from your parts tractor. Your relief valve may be leaking (contamination under valve plunger) or your main spring may be weak. J.

I would change oil and filter first and see what happens.

The flow divider is probably acting up. It is on the side of hyd. resevour down by your left foot when you sit in the seat.
