I just bought an Oliver 88 Row Crop and I"m having problems with it overheating. Does anyone know if it has a thermostat in the cooling system and where it is located. Coolant is fine and that is the only thing I can think of that would cause it to overheat. It"s overheating after about 15 minutes. Also, there is a metal piece on the top of the engine that is about 1 1/2 inches wide and about 7 inches long and about 1/2 high. It bolts right onto the top of the cylinder cover and when removed it opens right into the top of the cover and shows oil. It looks like some sort of vent or intake. I have noticed small puffs of white smoke comming from this vent. Is this normal and what actually is this piece and what is it"s purpose. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know what type of bucket would fit onto this tractor? I would like to get one, but not sure what will fit.

If wanting info. about bucket you mean info. about a loader for a 88 I have an 88 that has a Farmhand F11 loader mounted on it that I still use. With an 8ft. wide bucket it will dump over the top of a 13ft. 6in. semi-trl. Will have to look at tag to be sure loader is a F11. As to what Oliver loader was made for 88 I am not sure. The 1610/1810 models were made I think for super 88 and newer tractors but could be made to fit an 88. I Know of a 1610 mounted on a J.D. 4020 so anything is possible. Armand

Yep it should have a thermostat. If I remember right its in the neck thats bolted to the head that the upper hose hooks to. That part on the valve cover is the crank case breather and yes it can puff out smoke at times and if you are over heating will do so a lot more then normal. Other things to make sure of is that the water pump belt it tight and the radiator is clean so air can flow well. My 77 did that years ago and I found out the cooling system was clogged and I had to flush it out real good. I had to do it twice using vinagar and ever since it has run cool
