Will an Oliver 66 gas block be a direct fit in a later model Oliver 550 gas?
My brother has a 550 with a cracked block (frost damage).
If it isn't, can it be easily modified to work?

We put a complete 66 gas engine in a Super 55 to replace a bad diesel engine years ago. Only difference was the exhaust manifold and starter. 550 should be the same I would think.

Define frost damage: If it has a small external crack, I would pin it and forget it. Yes it would work although depending on the age of the 550 there will be changes in the blocks. By a 66 block do you mean a casting 1L100? J.

I am not sure which casting number it is...there is a complete 66 engine on E-bay right now, and it's in the right location(how often does THAT happen)!
The 550 is an Oliver badged as a Cockshutt, which I believe is one of the later models.

Thanks for any comments you have.

How do I contact you? Where is the crack?

The crack is on the carburetor side, down near the lower web area. I didn't get a good look at it, and right now it is 900 miles away from me.
My brother and nephew bought the tractor from a used iron guy who had wasted no time in peddling it after he acquired it. They patched it up with some JB weld or something, but my brother asked me if I knew where they could get a block...I told him I would look.
They have not yet got it running.
I left my e-mail address open...
